Turning over a new leaf

For you

  • Try swapping your tasteless white loaf of bread for a delicious fibre packed granary version.
  • Swap your refined table salt for our delicious Turnham Green flavoured salt.
  • Reach for an organic dark chocolate bar rather than the other nonsense you find on the shelves.
  • Put a litre bottle of water on your desk at work and make sure you finish it by the end of the day.
  • Try taking the time to actually savour and chew your food rather than gulping it down in a few seconds.
  • Actually hit your 5 a day fresh fruit and veg target every day.
  • Find out more about optimum nutrition at www.patrickholford.com
  • Start cooking again - sign up to a cookery course or if cooking is not your bag and you really want to improve your diet have a look at what The Pure Package could do for you.
  • Get off the bus/tube a stop early and walk.
  • Make time to relax - have a bath with your Turnham Green bath salts or schedule a massage.
  • Give up smoking once and for all - patches, self-help books and hypnotherapy are a great way to support your will power.

For others

  • Rediscover your local shops.
  • Find your local farmers’ market or organic box scheme.
  • Decide on your favourite charity for the year and gift aid some cash to them.
  • Organise a party for all those people you have been “Facebooking” and actually catch up face to face!
  • Send a postcard to that great Aunt or god child who would love to hear from you.
  • Really think about your shopping habits – where are your favourite products being made and do you think the price you are paying is getting to the “right” people?
  • If you are going on holiday to the developing world don't bring all your clothes with you - buy them locally and donate them to a local charity before you head home.

For the environment

  • Turn off the lights when you leave a room.
  • Boil just enough water to suit your requirements.
  • Turn off your appliances at the mains.
  • Put some insulation tape around those draughty windows.
  • Buy some clothes pegs and switch off your tumble dryer.
  • Turn the heating down and put on another jumper – or hop into bed earlier!
  • Call a plumber to finally fix that leaky old tap.
  • Turn down any unnecessary plastic bags when you are out shopping.
  • Buy a bike (and helmet) and hit the road!
  • Turn the TV off and read a book – or have a chat.
  • Plug in some energy efficient light bulbs.
  • Start composting - or buy a wormery.
  • Buy a recycling bin and fill up your recycling bag – stop sending your rubbish off to be wasted at landfill sites when it can be recycled.
  • Choose recycled or biodegradable products for your home including cleaning materials, paints, furniture…the list goes on!
  • Wash your laundry at 30 not 40 degrees.
  • Only run your dishwasher when it really is full.
